Carnival Valor

With several pools and hot tubs, the Valor is perfect for a Halloween getaway. Cruiseline.com rates the Valor service as 4.5 out of 5, and gives the cabins a 4.4 rating. Carnival’s low-carb menu is popular with diet conscious passengers, but I favor Guy Fieri’s Burger Joint—the best burgers at sea! My other favorite is the Blue Iguana Cantaina—an upscale taco and burrito bar with all the fixings. All this deliciousness is included in your cruise fare!

Our main hangout will be the Alchemy Martini Bar, where trained mixologists whip up concoctions on the spot—off the menu as well as newly created just for you! Afterhours, attend a stunning show in the grand Normandie theater, or head to the Punchliner Club, featuring top-notch comedians, different every night.

Once we get to the warmer weather, you’ll want to try out WaterWorks, Carnival’s onboard water park. Beyond the usual pools and hot tubs, there’s the Twister Waterslide—hundreds of feet of fast spiraling twists and turns to the pool below. Or, get wet with the Power Drencher—a huge bucket that dumps hundreds of gallons of water in one quick flip. Thankfully, there’s also Serenity—an adults-only quiet area—that boasts its own pool, bar, hot tub and other facilities, for no extra charge!

Itinerary

The fun begins the moment you board the Carnival Valor—which has been deigned from bow to stern for your fun and enjoyment. As we sail out of New Orleans we’ll host a welcome aboard party where you’ll meet your fellow cruisers and start making new friends right away. We’ll have fantastic views as we sail slowly down the Mississippi River all evening. Dinner is with the Daddy Cruise group (there’s a whole section of the dining room reserved just for us), followed by dancing, a show, comedy act, or whatever you want to do—it’s your vacation

Our first full cruise day is a day at sea. There’s plenty to do in addition to the private function that we’ll host this morning. Relax, unwind and get into vacation mode. Lounge on your private balcony or near one of the pools, or maybe even find a quiet nook to settle in with a book. Want to be more active on your day at sea? Play bingo, work out at the gym, watch a movie, dance all night, attend a cooking seminar, soak in a hot tub, watch a sunset (or a sunrise), play trivia games, sing along at the piano bar, do some wine tasting, check your email or surf the internet, grab a snack, watch live entertainment, get lucky in the casino, indulge in a spa treatment, catch the game in the sports bar, and on and on.

There’s a reason Cozumel is the Caribbean’s #1 cruise stop: this small island has everything! You can visit ancient Mayan ruins, shop till you drop, lounge one of the many beaches, go horseback or ATV riding, snorkel or scuba, feast on Mexican cuisine, drink margaritas all day, take in the rich culture and history, browse an art gallery, take a cooking class, tour the island…the list goes on and on.

There are two main things here. First, if you haven’t been to Chichen Itza, do it. This large, pre-Columbian city built by the Mayan people is one of the “New 7 Wonders of the World,” and for good reason. The main pyramid alone is worth the trip, but there is much more to see here. Already been there, done that? Then check out Merida, one of the most charming, quintessentially Mexican cities in the country (and my personal favorite!). From cooking classes to historical sites to culture to shopping to people watching to…you name it, you’ll find it here, and you’ll fall in love with the “real” Mexico.

After all this, you’ll be ready for another full day at sea, either to relax…or to energize one more time. But wait! Today is Halloween! So we’ll have our own private Halloween party on board, including costumes (yes, prizes for the best!) and more!

Welcome back to the USA--relaxed and rejuvenated, and full of scary memories that will last a lifetime!

Daddy Cruise® FAQs

A:

The cost of the cruise covers your cabin, tons of food and beverages (excluding alcohol and soft drinks; you'll pay extra for those), all the Daddy Cruise® benefits, entertainment on board and so much more. There are additional things you'll want to budget for: travel protection insurance (I never travel without it); excursions (you're free to disembark in each port, but the experience is much better if you join an organized outing with us or the cruise line); transportation to and from the ship (flights, ground transfers); gratuities of $16 per person per day (for crew staff: housekeepers, waiters, etc.), and pre-cruise hotel (the ship will not wait for you if your flight is late for whatever reason, so I always recommend you arrive at least one day before).

A:

Cruise lines typically advertise cruise prices at half of what a cabin actually costs, assuming two will share the cabin (called "double occupancy"). If you sail solo, they will charge roughly double that advertised rate to cover the full cost of the cabin.

A:

Of course! While we cater to the LGBTQ community, our allies are always welcome!

A:

You're always welcome to participate as much, or as little as you like. No pressure from us to engage, no hassle if you opt to sit anything out! We'll be there to welcome and encourage you at whatever level of engagement feels right for you.

A:

Enjoy it! We will offer plenty of opportunities to connect with the rest of us, but nothing is required. Dine with us, or on your own, or with a friend, or even in your own cabin! Join one of our private excursions, or go with one offered by the cruise line, or explore a port on your own, or stay on board. It's your vacation—spend it however you like!

A:

Ships are designed to minimize this, and there are several ways you can minimize that risk even more: from patches you wear, to pills you take, to even the location of your cabin on the ship (which can make a difference!). Those who do get seasick experience minor discomfort and find bed rest (maybe catching up on a movie in your room?) helps.

A:

Absolutely not! Large, all-gay cruises have a reputation for this, but we'll be on a regular ship with a thousand other guests of all persuasions. You're certainly welcome to hook up with others if you want to, discreetly of course.

A:

Typically, most of our guests are middle aged or senior gay men, but a lot of younger guys join us as well. All races are represented, as are all genders and those of varying physical abilities. Allies (non-LGBTQ people) are also very welcome.
